Tension Can Be Beautiful.

Tension gets a bad rap.

We feel tension in a room and immediately assume something is wrong. We talk about releasing it, avoiding it, resolving it.

But lately, I've been noticing how much of life is actually held together by tension.

Tension holds up bridges, keeps tents standing, and makes a guitar string sing. Ever had a swimsuit top with NO tension? Wow. It's scary.

Maybe tension isn't always something we need to get rid of.

In music, tension is part of what creates harmony. Different notes create friction, anticipation, even discomfort. We wait for them to resolve. And when they finally do, the resolution feels beautiful because of the tension that came before it.

Harmony doesn't mean everyone is the same, everyone agrees, or everything feels easy. Harmony requires difference. In music, if everyone sings the same note, that's unison, not harmony.

Harmony is different notes existing together, each holding its own sound while creating something together that none of them could create alone.

Maybe that's the beauty of tension.

Maybe we can learn to hold difference without losing connection.

Maybe tension isn't always a sign that something is wrong.

Sometimes, it's part of what holds us together.

Here's to appreciating a little healthy tension—in our relationships, our lives, and especially our swimsuit tops.

Love you!
